Senior Law Program Brings Vital Legal Services to Helping Hands of Vegas Valley

The Senior Law Program (SLP) recently joined Helping Hands of Vegas Valley (HHOVV) as an invited guest at the Senior Market Place, a regular community event designed to provide seniors with access to nutritious food and essential resources. The Senior Market Place is part of HHOVV’s Pantry Program, which serves seniors 60 years and older, living in Las Vegas or North Las Vegas, with incomes at or below 185% of the federal poverty guidelines. The program includes both a delivery service for homebound seniors and a walk-in pantry, where participants can select groceries tailored to their dietary needs.

Despite the chilly morning, the event was warm and welcoming, bringing together seniors from the community to access food, resources, and connections. SLP set up an informational table at the Market Place, offering a variety of legal resources and answering questions. Throughout the day, the team provided guidance on:

  • Estate Planning Workshops
  • Evictions, Housing & Real Property
  • Healthcare Power of Attorney, Wills & Basic Estate Planning
  • Elder Exploitation & Abuse
  • Consumer Assistance
  • Government Benefits

The SLP team present at the event included Bill Voy, Director of SLP’s Pro Bono Program, who has recruited volunteer attorneys to make a follow-up visit to HHOVV seniors to assist them one-on-one with completing their POA Health Care documents.

The event also featured complimentary snacks and hot cocoa, fostering a friendly and engaging atmosphere. Many seniors expressed their gratitude for the resources and support provided, sharing how valuable these services are in addressing their legal and personal needs.

Helping Hands of Vegas Valley’s programs, like the Senior Market Place and Grocery Delivery Program, are vital to supporting local seniors’ independence and well-being. HHOVV’s innovative Pantry Program not only provides food tailored to seniors’ dietary needs but also promotes social interaction and a sense of community among participants.

SLP is proud to collaborate with HHOVV and thanks them for the opportunity to connect with their community. If you or someone you know could benefit from SLP’s no-cost legal services, please contact us at info@snslp.org or call 702-229-6596 (Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM). Community partners are also encouraged to reach out to schedule workshops or presentations tailored to their needs.

Thank you, Helping Hands of Vegas Valley, for your invaluable support to seniors in our community and for allowing us to participate in your event. We appreciate HHOVV for helping SLP help more seniors!
